District Details

The Morgan County R-2 School District covers approximately 209 square miles and is located in Morgan County. It includes the communities of Versailles, Gravois Mills, Laurie, Glensted, and Excelsior. There are approximately 1,270 students in grades Preschool through 12 and employs about 220 faculty and staff.

By exceeding state standards and fostering a supportive, inclusive environment, we aim to empower every student to reach their full potential. This strategic plan outlines our goals, strategies, and actions to ensure that the Morgan County R-II School District remains at the forefront of educational excellence, preparing our students for success in a rapidly changing world.

Programs and Services

We offer an array of exceptional programs and services that cater to diverse student needs, fostering academic excellence, creativity, and holistic development.

Academic Programs

  • A strong core curriculum that meets state standards
  • Preschool programs that emphasize inclusive settings that recognize children's varied abilities, interests, needs, and learning styles while enhancing each child’s cognitive, creative, fine motor, gross motor, social, and emotional skills through learning, imagination, exploration, and emphasizing kindergarten readiness
  • Gifted program to challenge advanced learners (K-8)
  • Special Education programs to support students with special needs
  • A+ program, merit-based scholarship, that provides scholarship funds to eligible graduates of A+ designated high schools who choose to attend participating public community colleges or vocational/technical schools, or certain private two-year vocational/technical schools
  • Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Credit programs for high school students
  • Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs to provide students with job-related skills

Extracurricular Activities

  • A variety of sports teams for students of all interests and abilities
  • Visual and performing arts programs, such as band, choir, and theater
  • Clubs and organizations that focus on a variety of interests, such as academic clubs and student government

Student Support Services

  • School counselors to provide academic, social, and emotional support

  • Speech-language pathologists to help students with communication difficulties

Family and Community Engagement

  • Strong communication between schools and families utilizing ParentSquare, Infinite Campus Parent Portal, Web, Social Media
  • Parents-As-Teachers and a Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) to provide opportunities for parents to get involved in their children's growth, development, and education
  • Community partnerships with businesses, organizations, and institutions of higher learning

Sustainable Learning for Our Future

The Morgan County R-II School District is dedicated to reducing its carbon footprint and fostering a culture of sustainability within its schools and central office.

We strive to create a learning environment that promotes environmental responsibility for future generations.

The district has implemented a comprehensive program that includes a variety of initiatives. These include:

  • implementing the use of updated water fountain systems
  • implementing a recycling program to reduce waste
  • beginning the use of electric school buses for cleaner transportation
  • sharing of documents utilizing Google tools and other digital communication tools to limit the amount of paper and ink utilized for printing
  • movement to LED light bulbs throughout the district
  • implementation of school gardens and an outdoor classroom

These efforts are not only benefiting the environment but also creating a more engaging learning experience for students. Through school gardens and outdoor classrooms, students actively understand environmental issues and explore sustainable solutions.
