Here at the Morgan County R-II School District, students, teachers, and staff work together toward the common goals of lifetime learning and success. Teachers, parents, and community members collaborate to ensure that we have a guaranteed and viable curriculum that offers access and support to each student and meets all the requirements of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. We implement the Missouri Learning Standards (MLS) and define the Morgan County R-II School District’s learning goals. These standards define the knowledge and skills students need in each grade level and course for success in college, other post-secondary training, and careers. These expectations are aligned to the Show-Me Standards, which define what all Missouri high school graduates should know and be able to do.

Instructional coaches provide support in the areas of curriculum development, curriculum implementation, and curriculum revision across the K-12 spectrum. Along with the input from teaching staff, parents, and community members, the district assumes the responsibility for a written curriculum in each content area that aligns with state standards, district standards, and various assessment tools to ensure a guaranteed and viable curriculum.
Curriculum development is ongoing and assists in the school improvement process. This process is also supported by a district Professional Development Committee (PDC) Committee that coordinates monthly professional development workshops that focus on current best practice research, and allow the District to affirm effective practice while providing direction to lead changes designed to increase student achievement.

The Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP) is the mechanism used by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for making recommendations for accrediting public school districts in Missouri.
The latest iteration of the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP 6) is focused on continuous improvement for all schools, preparing each student for life beyond high school, and promoting practices that lead to healthy school systems. MSIP 6 will examine what districts are doing to implement effective practices and sustain improvements while increasing the focus on individual student growth.
To learn more about MSIP 6 view the MSIP 6 Comprehensive Guide or MSIP 6 Guidelines. To learn more about the MSIP or the district’s Annual Performance Report, contact the district’s superintendent, Marc Spunaugle at spunauglem@versaillestigers.org.
According to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), “the Missouri Learning Standards define the knowledge and skills students need in each grade level and course for success in college, other post-secondary training, and careers. These expectations are aligned to the Show-Me Standards, which define what all Missouri high school graduates should know and be able to do.”
In addition, we have created the Morgan County R-II Curriculum FAQs to provide further information about instructional content and curriculum.
The Missouri Learning Standards:
• Establish consistent learning goals for all students.
• Provide a clear road map of academic expectations at each grade level.
• Prepare students for post-secondary education and a globally competitive workforce.
• Were designed to be academically rigorous, attainable for students, and practical for teachers and districts.
• These standards focus on fluency, application, and a deep understanding of concepts.
The Morgan County R-II School District utilized BYOC before 2021 to write the curriculum. Since then, the Morgan County R-II Curriculum has been written and housed in Google Drive.
In addition, we have created the Morgan County R-II Curriculum FAQs to provide more information about the content and instruction of our curriculum.

AMI, or Alternate Methods of Instruction, can be used for up to 36 hours of lost or canceled instructional time due to exceptional or emergency circumstances, such as inclement weather closures. (Section 171.033 RSMo)
AMI Activities should include the following:
students will be actively engaged in the learning process to count attendance hours for state aid purposes;
work is completed and returned to the school the day students return to the building; and
teachers are providing instruction and are available to students during the AMI day.
Building Principals have been working with the MCR-II teaching staff to prepare activities for their students in the event we need to use an AMI day. All classwork and tasks for AMI days have been designed with the assumption that students do not have access to computers or Internet at home.
The Morgan County R-II School District meets the curricular and instructional needs of all students by offering a range of course offerings and educational opportunities. In cases where a student’s need is not being met by these offerings and opportunities, Senate Bill 603 (also known as “MOCAP”) provides one possible avenue to address the gap. MOCAP was passed with the intent to:
● Expand the range of course offerings and opportunities for students
● Provide access to courses when there are no qualified teachers to lead the course
● Allow access to courses not available at the local school district
In August 2022, House Bill 1552 passed by the Missouri Legislature and signed into law by Governor Parson, revises the Missouri Course Access and Virtual School Program (MOCAP) funding and enrollment process. The new law expands access to online learning to more students in Missouri and removes some previous requirements for virtual course access.
The Morgan County R-II Virtual Learning Plan provides a framework as a guide to routines and procedures related to taking virtual courses. To learn more, go to the Missouri Course Access and Virtual School Program (MOCAP) website.
The district asks that grade level/subject area teachers complete a Textbook Evaluation Form when requesting a textbook as part of the selection process and complete the Rubric for eLearning Tool Evaluation Form when requesting the use of/access to an online resource for instructional purposes.
